GOVERNOR’S IMPEACHMENT LOOMS

by George Kocan,

Communications Director, TAPROOT Republicans

The abysmal failure of Democrat leadership in Springfield has created great frustration among Republicans, most notably Dan Cronin, State Senator from the 21st District, and new Chairman of the Du Page Republican Party.

Cronin provided a political overview of the situation in Springfield at TAPROOT’s famous monthly meeting in Lombard, at the Old Country Buffet, off Roosevelt Rd., last Saturday, June 16.

He began he talk with great praise for TAPROOT Republicans who in years past presented a "impressive force" in DuPage Politics, saying that he will do anything to support the group. After all, one of the founders of TAPROOT some 42 years ago is George Ray Hudson, former State Senator. Serious contenders for office in Illinois still make their political pitches to grass-roots, conservative activist groups like TAPROOT.

Although the frustration seems to have driven some Republicans out of Springfield, most recently State Representative Joseph Dunn (96th District), it has forced Cronin to become more resourceful, impelling him to develop relationships with sympathetic Democrats based on philosophy and geography.

The incompetence and dysfunction of the Democrat Governor, Rod Blagojevich, whom the Trumpet has termed the "Boy Wonder," for obvious reasons, has also motivated Cronin to file a resolution to impeach him for "dereliction of duty." The word, ‘sociopath,’ actually passed Cronin lips, during his description of the Governor, which included the following: "He giggles his way through conversation, he is immature and has no work ethic."

There exist ancillary issues like the juvenile gangster task force, the budget and utility regulation. The duty now more than ever is to stay involved. "Somebody has to watch them (the Democrats)," Cronin said.

Regarding the budget, there has been no discussion, no negotiation, nothing happening. "Not like the old day, it was fun...I don’t know what they do all day (except) go jogging and play chess," he said.

The Governor is dedicated to his health care plan, Cronin continued, and is putting all his hopes on gambling. If that goes through, it will make Illinois the largest gambling state in the union. But, the press is not covering it.

He observed that people are less and less engaged in the process. This allows the ruling party to behave irresponsibly. It managed to pass six bills which in the past would have gotten them thrown out of office, among them installing abortion clinics in public schools. The electorate is less educated and less informed.

In DuPage County, the challenge for Republicans is to show the public that the GOP is something special. "They have governed the county for a long time. They have to show their pride and connect what we have in the county to GOP leadership," Cronin said. Unlike the Democrat-dominated Cook Co., DuPage is well run. All kinds of people want to move here and take part in its prosperity and open spaces. Republican competence in DuPage must be seen as a balance to Democrat malfeasance in Cook.

Comparing the current governor’s record with the convicted felon, former Republican Governor George Ryan, Cronin said, "Blagojevich makes George Ryan look like a Boy Scout." A federal investigation of the Boy Wonder has already started.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL—A popular radio talk-show host will speak at the annual picnic of the TAPROOT Republicans, August 15.

Teri O’Brien, who does political commentary on WLS radio (890 AM), gained celebrity with her wit and no-nonsense analysis of the day’s events. Her show airs every Sunday from 12 to 3 pm.

A juris doctor, Doctor O’Brien practiced law before she jumped into the highly competitive talk-radio field as a conservative commentator.

The favorite targets of her humor include Democrats John Kerry, Michael Moore, and most recently, the notorious pants-stuffer and former consultant to the Kerry campaign for president Sandy Berger.

“TAPROOT is proud to offer Doctor O’Brien as a speaker in our program to keep conservative up-to-date on the political trends,” said George Kocan, Chairman.  “All nine candidates for the U.S. Senate in the Republican Party talked to our group this past year.”

Former State Senator George Ray Hudson along with other conservative Republicans formed the TAPROOT Republicans 38 years ago.  Ever since, they have worked to bring the conservative message to the public and elect like-minded political candidates.

The organization is dedicated to preserving the U.S. Constitution and its guarantees of the right to life, moral decency, ownership of firearms, property rights, local government and low taxes.

‘TAPROOT’ stands for Traditions And Principles Republicans Often Overlook Today.

The picnic will run from 2 pm to 5 pm, Sunday, August 15, at Twin Lakes Park in Westmont.  It is on 55th Street between Fairview and Cass Avenues, at Williams St., in Westmont.   TAPROOT will supply soft drinks and charcoal.  Picnickers should bring their own meat, a dish share and extra chairs.  A free will offering of $5 per family will, also, be accepted.

CONSERVATIVE ACTIVISTS ELECT CHAIRMAN
A local conservative organization has elected Warrenville
resident George Kocan as its Chairman for 2004.  Kocan, 58, previously
served as the TAPROOT Republicans' First Vice-Chairman  and now replaces
Woodridge resident David Pittinger Jr.  The political group held the
election of officers at its annual Christmas party in Downers Grove,
Illinois.
"I feel greatly honored by this election.  We plan to apply
some shock and awe to Illinois politics and move it into the mainstream
where the conservatives live.  I can hardly wait for the 2004 elections.
I invite all the grassroots activists out there to join us," said Kocan.
The other board of directors include Dave Diersen, Wheaton,
First Vice-Chair; Jack McInerney, Homewood, Second Vice-Chair; Carolyn
Connell, Downers Grove, Secretary; Bob Graham, Treasurer, Naperville; and
four Directors: Byrd Parmelee, Glen Ellyn; Art Thede, Woodridge; Dennis
Driscoll, Chicago; Elden Brauer, Wheaton.
The Christmas party also featured a legislative update from
State Senator and Minority Whip Peter Roskam, representing and
surrounding towns, who pointed out Governor Rod Blagojevich of raising
Illinois spending rather than cutting it as the mainstream press has
reported.
Jim Oberweis, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, dropped
in to say a few words about his campaign and treat the party-goers to his
families' high quality ice-cream.
John Cox, who recently abandoned his candidacy to the U.S.
Senate in favor of Elgin's State Senator Steve Rauchenberger, also
dropped in with his Christmas greetings and announced his possible
candidacy for the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.  He would like to be
elected so that he could "fire himself" and eliminate the office.  Cox
hosts his own radio program, "The Progressive Conservative", on WJJG,
1530 AM.
Since the beginning of 2003, all the Republican U.S. Senate
candidates have come to TAPROOT's meetings to address conservative
activists--Steve Rauschenberger, Jack Ryan, Andy McKenna, John Borling,
Johathan Wright, and Chirinjeev Kathuria.
The January breakfast meeting, at the Lombard Old Country Buffet, will
host the Rev. Mateen Elass, an expert on Islam.  The son of a Moslem
father, schooled in Western philosophy, trained as an instructor in yoga
and Eastern mysticism, Elass converted to Christianity and now serves as
a Presbyterian minister.
Former State Senator George Ray Hudson along with other conservative
Republicans formed the TAPROOT Republicans 37 years ago.  Ever since,
